ROSKILDE FJORD

Redshank

(Tringa totanus).

Ringing a Redshank chick.

The Redshank is a typical salt meadow bird, which nests in fairly tall vegetation, with the result that the nests are extremely hard to find, unlike those of other waders. In the 1980s the population reached about 60 pairs, but it has since fallen to less than ten. This is mainly because most of them were on Eskilsø and the foxes have driven them right away.
