ROSKILDE FJORD

Canada Goose

(Branta canadensis).

The Canada Goose came originally from North America but was introduced into Sweden at the beginning of last century. It is well established there and there is now a sizeable population, a large part of which winters in Denmark. Like the Whooper Swan, it forages on winter crops.

These geese are most often seen in the southern part of the fjord. They have a characteristic trumpeting voice (similar to that of the Whooper Swan) which can be heard from a great distance when the birds fly in a wedge-shaped formation between the fjord and their foraging grounds.
